Warmth – Now easier! – WiFi Thermostat for Underfloor Heating

Kitchen in Nuheat underfloor heatingHelping your clients stay warm is now easier than ever!

Easy and beautiful throughout a home – from the kitchen to the bathroom and all points in between.

Pictured here is a kitchen renovation from Leave it to Bryan (HGTV) that you can view YouTube.  It includes “warmth” by Nuheat, the company that recently introduced North America’s first programmable thermostat for electric underfloor heating.

Underfloor heating has many benefits throughout the home for Health, Safety & Comfort– as discussed in last week’s blog, Staying warm is good for your health.

Today we will talk about ease of use and convenience when we take a look at programmable thermostat for electric underfloor heating, and specifically the Signature Wi-Fi Touch Screen (link takes you to full product details on Amazon).

This product innovation was introduced by Nuheat at the “home shows of home shows”. Here’s a picture that I took at their booth at the show.

This blog is part of a series reviewing the latest and greatest products for Active Living from the show. More about the blog tour below.

Warmth & Active Living

During a cold winter, underfloor heating is attractive because of the comfort it provides for active living.

But, it is also important for health and safety.  Many patients are advised to maintain a consistent body temperature if prescribed blood thinning medications prescribed for high blood pressure, thrombosis or hip or knee replacement surgery.

Safety benefits include drier floors to reduce slipping and the build-up of mold or bacteria when water is likely to be on the floor, such as a bathroom or an entrance to the home.

Baseboard vs Underfloor heating

Underfloor heating “distributes heat evenly” according to the Nuheat team. This concept is shown in this illustration from the Nuheat website that compares heat distribution when the heat source is a baseboard heater (left) and underfloor heating (right).

WiFi – Now even easier

Who wants to think about room temperature?  We all just want to be comfortable – all of time, no matter the weather outside.

Programmable thermostats are a great answer. Recommend them for each room and then your client will live in comfort.

And, suggest setting the temperature at different levels in each room depending on who uses the room. She wants her hobby room warm and he likes his study cooler.  Easy!

Great for multigen living  – since different generations often have very different “definitions” of warmth and comfort.

Your clients can program their heat preferences remotely from a mobile smart phone application or web browser

This is great for anyone but I can’t help but think of the convenience for anyone who is computer savvy like these Seniors or family caregivers helping aging parents.

Green Savings – Money and Energy

Green livingProgramming can also reduce heating costs since you can lower the temperate for nighttime or when you are out of the home.

Remember, saving just one hour of energy costs per day = 365 hours per year!

Melting Products

Driveway with snow melting cables under paversWe will wrap it up on underfloor heating companies late – but you may want to take the quick look at freeze protection products for the inside of the home and products for the outside of the home such as snow melting products.  Both Nuheat and Warmup, the subject of an earlier blog, offer products.

This is a photo of a driveway in my neighborhood with snow melting cables under the pavers.

Sure beats a shovel!

About this blog series

This blog is part of a series about the latest and greatest products for Active Living featured on the Aging in Place and Universal Design Product Tours at the International Builders Show in January 2015.

Mike Holmes and Ann Watson after the International Builders ShowOur introduction entitled “Mike was there – Join Us if you weren’t” included this selfie taken by Mike Holmes (HGTV).

The blog series is written by me, Ann, founder of Sage in Home, where consumers and professionals can find unbiased advice about homes for active living. The series is NOT sponsored.  In fact, I didn’t even select the companies on the tour.

Nuheat was featured on the IBS Aging in Place product tour because underfloor heating has demonstrable benefits to meet specific needs relating to health and safety as well as comfort in the home.

Ann brings the passion of a family caregiver to Sage in Home, having helped both her mother and mother-in-law renovate their homes for safety, comfort and ease of use. She is a “Sandgen” mother, caring for two children and providing support to older family members while working. Prior to becoming CEO of Sage in Home, she worked in the financial services industry for over twenty five years.

Her entrepreneurial spirit and vision helped to shape Sage in Home. She is a Certified Age in Place Specialist (CAPS), studied Universal Design and has been a guest speaker at Aging in America. She holds a Masters in Business Administration and a Bachelor of Commerce. In the past, she was President of the board of a children's enhanced learning program and Treasurer and board member of both the Nathaniel Dett Chorale and the Word on the Street.
